Healthcare PR and Medical Educational, where the audience can vary from consumers and concerned patients to nurses, doctors and consultants is a very specialist area. To engage our audience and ensure efficient message uptake, it is vital that communications programmes are developed and delivered by senior, experienced professionals who are well connected in the healthcare sector.

Working with Cerys Evans and Siobhan Wastie, The Word is please to announce the launch of their specialist Healthcare Division. Previously Associate Directors and shareholders at hsdcommunications, Cerys and Siobhan left in March 2008 following the acquisition of the company and bring to The Word a wealth of multi-disciplinary experience in the healthcare arena we are delighted to now offer potential clients.

Delivering both Healthcare PR and Medical Education and working with the existing PR team at The Word as well as specialist medical PR consultants, this new arm to the already successful Word PR will provide communication programmes for over the counter, complementary and prescription medicines. If required, co-ordinated programmes encompassing both direct to the consumer and medical education programmes can also be developed.

Cerys Evans - Senior Consultant

Cerys Evans is an experienced PR professional with a proven ability to deliver impactful PR campaigns for both healthcare and consumer brands. With a passion for creative thinking and how this can translate into media coverage, Cerys has worked with companies including Shire Pharmaceuticals, Beiersdorf, Potter’s Herbal Medicines and Stiefel Laboratories.

In 2006, Cerys was one of three finalists in the prestigious Communiqué Young Achiever of the Year Award and the CIPR Young Communicator of the Year and during 2007 won two awards for implementing an innovative educational campaign targeting healthcare professionals.

Cerys brings senior advice and strategic counsel to all her client accounts and has developed an innate ability to quickly identify nuances between different audiences and environments so that customised PR programmes with measurable results are delivered.

In her spare time, Cerys can be found getting away from it all at home on her farm in Suffolk. There you’ll find her out riding her horses or walking the dogs with her husband, Chris.

Siobahn Wastie - Senior Consultant

Siobhan is an experienced professional who specialises in the development of strategic communications programmes in the ethical healthcare sector.

After 16 years in healthcare public relations, Siobhan and Cerys Evans formed Signature Communications in May 2008. Both decided that they needed to establish a work/life balance for themselves and their group of healthcare communications professionals.

She and Cerys first met 10 years ago when they both worked together at hsdcommunications and both left in March 2008 having been Associate Directors and shareholders following the acquisition of the company. Prior to hsdcommunications Siobhan had been an Account Director at Blackwell Healthcare PR, responsible for both UK and international medical education programmes.

During her career in medical communications Siobhan has undertaken a number of high profile product launches including the UK launches of Dovonex Scalp Solution (Leo), Curatoderm (E Merck) and Protium (Knoll). She was also instrumental in the development and launch of the Primary Care Dermatology Society (PCDS) in 1994.

More recently Siobhan was responsible for establishing the Secretariat & Symposia Division at hsdcommunications which represented the interests of the Primary Care Dermatology Society, Primary Care Society for Gastroenterology and British Dermatological Nursing Group. She provided strategic advice from the perspective of both parties – industry and healthcare professionals. Siobhan additionally worked on a number of other projects as well as new business development.

Siobhan has specific expertise in dermatology, gastroenterology, gynaecology, infertility, ophthalmology, psychiatry, transplantation and devices. She is particularly adept in the development of key opinion leaders and she has extensive contacts across a wide range of health disciplines both in the UK and internationally.
